Afraid as a member of the WGA who picketed on cold dark mornings for four months so creators' work could not be reused without compensation or permission, I can't agree that losing a file-sharing site is a bad thing. And without file-sharing sites like this one, we wouldn't be dealing with SOPA/PIPA, which threaten to destroy my source of income in Second Life (by destroying Second Life) and the Internet as we know it.
Oh, I get that. I know the problems with online piracy. If there was a way for me to legitimately purchase all my TV viewing needs desires online I would go for it.
Having to wait 6-12 months for a TV show to air in Australia, and then be subjected to the whims of the Aussie channel that airs it (or not)... Which in turn leads to an increasing delay in the DVD coming out... I lived with that for two years of my growing online social life before the spoilers got too much for me and I gave in to the allure of downloading.
However, most of what I watch via online means, I end up buying on DVD [once it's released here]. I'd have never gotten into Chuck or Pushing Daisies or the amazing Southland if it weren't for that online access. It'd be the same for a lot of people like me - who want to contribute money to creators of their favourite shows, but just aren't able to due to circumstances they can't control.
Unfortunately, there are others who just want everything for free.
