We'll, nothing as truly distinct like the US accents or the English, or the New Zealanders. It takes an Aussie to recognise when somebody's failing at doing an Aussie accent (like many of the flashback/flashforward actors attempting to play an Australian character on Lost). There was a TV special a while back that declared there were THREE kinds of Australian accent - but I can't remember what they were.
Aye, I know. The people with ratings boxes are difficult to find in Australia too. ;)
I think that nobody thinks that he/she has a unique accent compared to people from other places. I find American accents to be blah and Aussie, Kiwi, Irish, Scottish & English accents to be awesome.
I have to admit that I’m not good at telling when non-Americans try to do an American accent. I had no idea Hugh Laurie was British until I read his bio on Wikipedia.
I thought that Jessie Spencer was doing a bad job at an Australian accent, but it turns out he’s an Aussie. Oops! I was actually surprised to find an Aussie playing an Aussie.
