The writer doesn't portray Bela as a poor soul; she's written as the selfish bitch that she is. But we get things from her point of view, so we get her thoughts on certain matters. The Bela side of the story feels very real. Sam is also very much like he'd be in the show. Dean? I'm still to work him out. Do love his like-hate banter with Bela, though.
Btw, SPOILERS at least until after 3x06 "Red Sky At Morning".
