Livin' in the Land Down Under...
Feb. 8th, 2009 06:11 pmThis month it feels as if the whole country has flipped. Queensland in the north, where it should typically be hotter, is experiencing floods. While Victoria, which should be experiencing cooler temperatures, is currently going through a tragic bushfire season.
Lately, almost every one of my Northern Hemisphere flisters has posted about the snow and the freezing temperatures... While I bake and sweat and get heatstroke. I must be thankful, though, as there don't seem to be any bushfires near my house and with the extreme lack of rain there's no chance for any flooding. Rain would be good though, this week. We really, really, need the rain.
You might have heard about the extremely hot temperatures that occurred during the Australian Tennis Open in Melbourne last month... The Heatwave just continued, and it's only gotten more difficult to deal with. The bushfires were predicted, but the amount of tragedy wasn't. Some residents have called it "worse than Ash Wednesday", where 47 Victorians perished.
If you're of the praying type, please pray that the fires lessen this week. And that whoever is deliberately lighting them finds a conscience and STOPS. *shakes head*
As I typed all this out, the death toll has risen from 50 to 65...
